| Satellite images in the Image Bank |
 Choosing Satellite Images in the main menu, you are given access to the Sarepta Image Bank. You will find daily updated weather images from the weather satellites NOAA and Meteosat. In addition there are SAR images taken by ERS-2 satellite. An area around the Svalbard archipelago in the Barents Sea has been selected. A number of SAR scenes covering the area has been identified, and the same scene will be provided every 35 days.
During 2007 the old global sea surface temperature (SST) images will be replaced of SST images from MODIS covering Europe. |

| What are the satellites used for? |
 Satellite data information has during the last 20 years, been developed to become a necessary part of the basis of observation of, for instance, weather forecasting, supervision of forest fires, polar research and deforestation, military surveillance and administration, to mention but a few. |

 During interpretation of aeroplane images one works with photos as an example of what we call analogue images. By this is meant images that are represented directly by a physical size, for instance intensity, dyes or a video signal. |
